Late Comic, my fault - Dermo!
Hey guys, by now we're all back in college and what a terrifying
prospect that is. This is my last year and I'm feeling it. Too much.
I can't go back into education (well, its art college, so "education"
is probably stretching the word to its very limits) I have to go out
into the real world and I'm terrified. Well, only a little. But
really worried with what the hell I'm going to with rest of my life.
Anyway, sorry about the lack of updates, but that's all going to
change. As of this week, we're going twice a week. Monday's and
Thursdays are our days in question. So watch out. It'll be great.
Saw a really interesting show this weekend called "My name is Earl"
Its got Jason Lee and if that wasn't enough for you, the guy from
Mallrats, who couldn't see the magic eye picture. Ethan Suplee, is in
it as well. It's great. It has no sympathetic characters in it and
it's a pretty bold move fro prime Time TV. Its no Firefly, but what
is? Just good fun, as that's what its all about.
Speaking about fun and bold moves, Erik Larsen went on the attack
criticising comic book "creators" for not being original enough. No,
he doesn't mean that Spider-Man has fought the Green Goblin 400 odd
times now and its time for some new enemies. He wants creators to
actually create, and not just be happy doing what other people tell
them to do and go out on the own and create something that is theirs.
out here. Its OK, I'll still be here..
Although I fucking love Spider-Man and batman, and would leap at the
chance to draw them, that's not all I want to do. I want to be
remembered as an artist with a voice, not just as a kick ass Spidey
If you can, I would HIGHLY recommend picking up Sharknife, Peng and
Scott Pilgrim from your nearest local comic book store. Or the 3rd
Place, just beside the back door of the Foggy Dew in Temple Bar.
They're the most original books I've read in a long time, and not
mention the most fun. So, that's Corey Lewis' Sharknife, and his new
book, Peng and Brian Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim. All of them are
published by ONI and all of them are totally worth the money
See you on Thursday
