And yes, I guess this is becoming quite the Restive tradition.
I know some of you on the mailing list may have seen this, but hereís my Christmas card to you guys
Hope youíre all having a great day.
Jesus is great. In much the same way that Buddha, Krishna, Moses, Mohammed and Superman are great. I may have my own personal problems with religion in all forms, but I went to Christmas Eve service in my old school last night, and it was pretty special. All cynicism aside, Iím all behind something that can bring a group together and give of themselves for a higher purpose, be it Christmas, Diwali, Chanukah, or Ramadan. It was a nice feeling being in that church.
Iím a big fan of Christmas. Iím honestly not fussed about presents. Thatís not the important part for me. Itís seeing people go out of their way for no other reason than ďSure, its ChristmasĒ One of my favourite things about this time of year is tied down to something I used to in school. Every year a bunch of 5th and 6th year students (11th and 12th graders) would sleep out and fast for the 48 hours leading up to Christmas in an effort to raise money and awareness for the homeless population in Dublin. The actual boys themselves, while remarkable for doing this, arenít my main sense of pride. It was seeing people who wouldnít even look a homeless guy in the eye on the street, stopped and listened to us talking about why we here and why we were doing this and giving us some money. Those simple acts of generosity, those small acts of kindness is what makes Christmas for me. Its, pathetic I know, but I really loved being proven wrong about people this time of year. If only we could carry that on all year round.
Anyways, if you vote today, youíll see kind of a work in progress for the Christmas Card. Itís essentially the linework under all the scribbles and other stuff I used to map out the image. I hope you like it.
Anyways. Merry Christmas and Iíll see you on Wednesday!!
